About theCompany

Embu Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (EWASCO), was incorporated in 2003 Under theKenyaCompanies Act Chapter 486 as a public water utility Company. The Company is wholly owned by the County Government of Embu and in line with Water Act 2016 the Company operations fall under the Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) area of jurisdiction. EWASCO’s mandate is to provide High Quality, Reliable, Affordable Water and Sanitation Services through Environmentally Friendly Technologies.

Job Summary

The Company is seeking to recruit a motivated, qualified, experienced and results-oriented visionary leader with a strong commitment to EWASCO’s mandate to fill the role of the Managing Director. The Managing Director will be the Company’s accounting officer overseeing the day to day implementation of the Company’s Mandate, is the principal Company spokesperson, and execute and communicate the Board’s strategies and decisions. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate is expected to implement theCompany’s Strategic Vision and Mandate.

As the Vision bearer, the Managing Director shall lead, co- ordinate and motivate the staff of EWASCO, be innovative and spearhead theCompany’schangemanagement whileensuring operational efficiency, service delivery and performance. Workingwith theBoard, theManagingDirectorshallbe theface of theCompany, collaborate, engageand network with various stakeholders and mobilize resources while demonstrating prudent resourceand project management.

Key Duties andResponsibilities

  1. Develop and recommend to the Board the long- term strategy, Corporate plans, performance management, and establish appropriate internal monitoring and control systems and procedures to support the achievement of theCompany’s Mandate;
  2. Recommend annual budgets to theBoard for approval and ensure prudent utilization of Company resources as per guidelines provided by the Government while ensuring accurateand timelyaudits;
  3. Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, laws, regulationsand procedures;
  4. Build and manage relationships with Key stakeholders to mobilize resources for the Company and develop strategies to increase funding to meet the objectives of theCompany;
  5. Coordinate and prepare business-related proposals, projects, reports and other submissions for consideration by theBoard;
  6. Coordinate the Company’s development programs, project formulation, funding implementation, appraisal, monitoringandevaluation
  7. Identifyand source for suitabledevelopment partners and beneficiaries for collaboration;
  8. Establish internal monitoring and controls systems and procedures in linewith theCompany’sguidelinesand best practice;
  9. Ensure regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Board on key financial, technical and administrative matters;
  10. Provide leadership to Management and be a link between theBoard and Management;
  11. Develop and institutionalize an effective performance management culture and ensure the Company has an effective performance management system;
  1. Maintain a conducive work environment for attracting talent, retaining and motivating employees and foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporatecitizenship and high performance;
  2. Leading a cultural transformation and organizational restructuring toposition theutilityasa leader in thewater sector;
  3. Driving Business automation to leverage on technology and improve on operational efficiency, effectiveness and business growth.


  1. Be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Business Management, Finance, Economics or its equivalent qualification from a recognized University;
    1. A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage;
    1. Have at least 10 years relevant work experience, five (5) of which must be in aSenior Management position;
    1. Hold a professional qualification and membership to a professional body whereapplicable and in good standing;
    1. Competency in Management information systems relevant to the water sector;
    1. Must be conversant with designs, implementation and operations of water and sanitation infrastructure;
    1. Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010;
      1. Certificate of good conduct from Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI)
      1. Clearance certificate from accredited credit reference bureau (CRB)
      1. Clearance certificate from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
      1. Valid Tax compliance certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
      1. Clearance certificate from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)

Terms andConditions of Service

Thepositionof theManagingDirector will beona three (3) year contract renewableonce, basedon deliveryof set performance targetsandevaluation by theBoard of Directors.
