EWASCO’s Ksh300 MILLION PROJECT SET TO QUENCH THIRST IN WATER SCARCE AREAS

On 6th February 2023, Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited Embu Water and Sanitation Company limited management to help achieve the managements’ dream to supply sufficient domestic water to Embu county.

A Ksh300 million water supply project is ready to kick off once Japanese International Cooporation Agency completes laying down strategies that will help EWASCO to secure a loan with a commercial bank to help quench thirst in water scares areas and especially in the semi arid areas. This will be by constructing a water treatment plant at Kathageri in Runyenjes constituency.

The mission to construct a new treatment works at Kathageri will boost water by almost four times that produced at Kanyuambora treatment works. The treatment works at Kanyuambora produces 3000 cubic meter per day while the target treatment works set to be constructed at Kathageri will be producing 11,000 cubic meter per day.

This will be a major project aimed at quenching thirst to majority of the villages that have suffered for years without clean domestic water.
Once the project will be completed, EWASCO Managing Director, CPA Dickson Njiru said that the pipeline from Kathageri will manage to serve other areas, including parts of Evurori ,Nthawa and Muminji wards that have not receiving EWASCO services adequately.

Other areas that will benefit with the line is Kigumo, Mukuria, Kavengero , Ugweri , Karurumo, Kasavari among other areas.

JICA will also boost the company with technical knowledge, and also tendering document to help fasten the process.

It will be a big plus to the Embu community and especially to residents in areas that have been fetching water far away in streams.
