Embu Water and Sanitation Company Limited [EWASCO] Supports Internship program

Embu Water and Sanitation Company Ltd [EWASCO] has deployed a number of interns to its various departments under an internship program.

The paid internship program was initiated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 as part of his agenda to create one million jobs per year.

The program will see the interns posted across all EWASCO departments to help them acquire more knowledge in their areas of specialization.

The internship draws interns from a range of courses including Engineering, Geographic information system (GIS), Data Analysts, Accounts, Human Resources Management, among other courses related to the services provided by EWASCO.

Majority of the interns usually apply for the programme with the hope of getting absorbed in the formal job sector.

During last year’s enrollment, the company considered another group of interns that completed their one-year program last month and issued them with certificates that would help them get jobs easily after acquiring more experience from areas of their specialization

The interns were taken through induction process and later toured to Rupingazi intake, Mukangu treatment works and the new sewerage.

However, the unemployment rate among the youth has risen especially due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The initiative is a global multisector partnership designed to address the need for expanded education, training and employment opportunities for young people
